looking in.

he has been restrained
for what seems
infinite eternities

a hostage of cognizance

caged in a disposable
frame, worn vulnerable
and left modest again

in that endless hollow valley

he is a captive held
by the sky, as she carefully
pins him to the earth

each verdict binds him
to a path, he is
destined to travel alone

he may flee the land
a safe road is his, and
he can read the signs

if he chooses to ascend

a route of divination
life isolated, life
but a penance to which

he provides his consent
